Avraham Eilat (b. 1939)
Avraham Eilat was born in 1939 in Tel Aviv. As a young artist he studied painting with Arieh Allweil. During 1960-1976 he was a member of Kibbutz Shamir. In 1966 he traveled to France, where he studied etching with W. S. Hayter. In the 1970s he began experimenting also in avant-garde photography and cinema. His early works in etching are of an abstract nature. Eilat’s later works – from the 1980s onwards – include apocalyptic landscape depictions or anonymous figures engaged in labor, inspired by Egyptian art. Lives and works in Ein Hod. His works can be found among the collections of the Israel Museum; Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Haifa Museum of Art; Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod; the French National Library (Paris), and Ludwig Museum (Cologne).
