Tuvia Beeri
Tuvia Beeri was born in 1929 in Topoľčany, Czechoslovakia (today Slovakia). During World War II he fled from a march headed toward the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, and eventually ended up in Budapest. After Hungary was liberated by the Red Army, he was in forced labor camp, where his left hand was injured. After completing his art studies in Israel, Beeri traveled to Paris where he studied etching with Johnny Friedlaender and at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1963 he returned to Israel and taught at Bezalel. In 1964 he founded an etching workshop at the Avni Art Institute in Tel Aviv, and in 1965 he founded the print workshop at the Tel Aviv Artists’ House. That same year, he co-founded the group Ten+, but soon withdrew from its activity. During 1970-1971 Beeri founded a print workshop at La Cité, Paris. His works are comprised mostly of prints. He uses engraving, etching, and aquatint in his works, which include cosmological images and abstract geometrical landscapes.
