50 Years of Printmaking

Curator: Arik Kilemnik Assistant Curator: Merav Hamburger

50 years of experimentation, creativity, friendship, and groundbreaking printmaking.
The Jerusalem Print Workshop is celebrating 50 years of Israeli print with a wide range of artists that have been invited to study and create in the workshop throughout the years. Since 1974, the Print Workshop has strived to rethink print, to both challenge the status quo and respect the timeless traditions of printing techniques.
In this special environment, amongst the strong scents of acid, ink, and paper, artists discovered new forms of expression. For many, the time spent in the workshop would be a turning point, influencing ones language and approach to materials and subject in mediums beyond the world of print.
“50 Years of Printmaking” displays many of Israel’s finest artists, those who have shaped the print scene through their work. The linear exhibition traces the shifts within the workshop and as a result the transformation of print within the Israeli environment. From works by commission to creative residencies, both printing and the workshop have undergone a fascinating transformation, one that will be highlighted and celebrated in this extensive exhibition.
While the Jerusalem Print Workshop has had a great influence over individuals and the art community as a whole over the past fifty years, we are especially excited to consider the endless possibilities in store for the next fifty years.
How will print be reimagined and reconsidered by artists and printers alike?
This important landmark is an opportunity to both recognize previous accomplishments and look forward to many more years of creation and cooperation in the Jerusalem Print Workshop.
