Bruckenthal, Raya

Raya Bruckenthal
Raya Bruckenthal (born 1975) is an interdisciplinary artist, living in Jerusalem and working at the Artists’ Studios at Teddy. In her works, Bruckenthal explores the religious experience in drawing, installations, and video art. She encourages an alternative reading for concepts of Orthodox Judeism, which she juxtaposes with pop culture, video and “trashy” images. She uses their affecting power in order to create a “controlled desecration of borders,” which allows an open discussion about faith, and inspect aspects of faith that are both social taboo and Jewish.
