Alima (1932-2013)
Alima Rita was born in 1932 in Nesher. In the 1960s, after completing her art studies, she moved to Paris. In 1965 she returned to Israel. In the 1970s, printmaking became a central medium in her artistic work. She studied lithography at Tamarind Institute in New Mexico, United States, and attended the Burston Graphic Center in Jerusalem. She created mostly in lithography and screenprint until the 1990s. These works were distinguished by bright colors, geometric shapes and limited form. During 1975-1978 she directed the print workshop of the Artist’s House in Tel Aviv and taught printmaking at HaMidrasha and other schools. Since 2014 the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod has been awarding the Alima Prize for the Art of Printmaking in her memory.
