Ivan Schwebel (1932-2011)

Ivan Schwebel was born in 1932 in West Virginia, United States, to a Jewish-Orthodox family. In 1963 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. Though he worked also in screenprint, most of his prints were in the field of etching. His works combined realistic depictions of the Israeli urban landscape and figurative imagery based on biblical iconography. His etchings often served as a base for oil painting. His works can be found among the collections of the Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and many others.
