Talia Benabu | Anna Dubinsky | Hila Chessen | Iddo Markus | Talia Sivan | Shahar Sivan | Rotem Amizur

Opening
March 16, 2023

The Nevi’im artists group is a unique phenomenon in the local art field. It materialized as it traveled between different spaces in Haifa’s Lower City for years, until it found its own place in the Talpiot market in the city. The Nevi’im center includes an art school, studios and a gallery. It constitutes a hub for creation and encounter for the group and the community of students that has evolved around it.
The exhibition, through the print works of the group, seeks to represent this mutual space – which is both physical and metaphysical – a rare entity of knowledge-sharing, mutual influence and common fate.
The spectrum of media and creative expressions of the Nevi’im group is rooted in the figurative. As artists with various areas of expertise working in Israel, Italy, the United States and Germany, they work in an international context of contemporary figurative creation, their poetic observation of the visible world accompanying their work throughout the years.
Exhibited alongside the variety of prints on paper – which express the experimental, dynamic and playful nature of the printmaking medium – are works that are a multiplication of the traditional printmaking process: Shachar Sivan’s wooden reliefs and sculptures and Talia Benabu’s space-specific work, which is made up of collagraph plates.
The “Nevi’im” herald in their work an artistic message that centers around the research of image and matter, and is committed to studio labor and productiveness in the spirit of the “red” city where they operate.
